About

Built by people who ran the sound desk.

SpanVoice is built and run by ARKNET PTY LTD in Brisbane, Australia, by people who have sat at the sound desk of a room where half the people could not follow what was being said. It is the tool we wanted on those days: started in a minute, read on the phone already in every pocket, and paid for by the hour rather than by the month.

A bright hall during a talk: a blue light trail runs from the speaker’s microphone to the sound desk and out to every listener’s phone and the caption screen.

Why this exists

Live sound has been done the same way for a long time: one person at a desk, one microphone feed, one language out of the speakers. The people in the room who speak something else got an interpreter whispering in a corner, a box of hired receivers, or nothing. We ran rooms like that and did not like any of the three.

What changed is that every person in the room now carries a screen and an internet connection. SpanVoice takes the feed the desk already has, turns it into captions and spoken translation, and puts them on those screens in the language each person chooses. The desk does what it always did. The room reads along.

How we work

We charge for the hours you run: no monthly fee, no seats, no language slots, and credit that never expires. The rate card is on the pricing page and the calculator works your event out before you sign up. If you find a similar service for less, tell us and we will look into it.

We make every claim on this site from our own tests or our suppliers’ published documentation, and we keep a public notice about how the translation is produced. Support is a ticket, not an inbox: write to us from the contact page or the Support tab in your admin, and the whole conversation stays in one place.

Where it runs from

Servers in three regions, so the captions keep pace wherever the room is. A venue is placed in the region nearest to it when it is created.

  • Australia

Where the company is and where the first rooms were run. Servers in Australia serve venues across Australasia and Asia.

  • Europe

Servers in Europe serve venues across Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Africa, so the words take the short path from the microphone to the phone.

  • The United States

Servers in the United States serve venues across North and South America, with the same short path from the microphone to every phone in the room.

  • The company

ARKNET PTY LTD, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The terms and privacy notice say who holds what and for how long.

Try it in your own room.

Point it at a microphone, put the link on the screen, and watch the room read along.

A$10 of free credit when you sign up, no credit card needed. Credit never expires — use it this week or next year.
